A Property Identification Code (PIC)
is a unique alphanumeric code assigned to a specific parcel of land in Australia where livestock are kept. Issued by state and territory governments, the PIC links animals to their location of origin and is a foundational element of the National Livestock Identification System. It is required for ordering NLIS tags, completing National Vendor Declaration documents, and managing livestock movements. PICs play a critical role in biosecurity, traceability, and emergency disease response by enabling authorities to quickly identify and track livestock locations.

National Livestock Identification System (NLIS)
is Australia’s national system for identifying and tracing livestock, enabling whole-of-life traceability for cattle, sheep, and goats. It uses electronic identification (eID) tags and a central database to record animal movements between properties, saleyards, and processors. Managed by Integrity Systems Company, NLIS supports biosecurity, food safety, and market access by allowing rapid tracking of animals in the event of a disease outbreak or residue issue.

Managed by Integrity Systems Company, LPA requires producers to meet strict guidelines across biosecurity, livestock treatments, and property management. Accreditation is essential for accessing domestic and international markets, providing buyers with confidence that livestock have been responsibly and compliantly produced.

National Vendor Declaration (NVD)
is a key document within Australia’s red meat integrity system, used to declare the food safety and treatment history of livestock when they are transferred between properties, saleyards, or processors. It provides critical information on animal identification, chemical use, feeding history, and LPA status, ensuring compliance with market and regulatory requirements. As part of the Livestock Production Assurance framework and managed through Integrity Systems Company, the NVD underpins traceability, market access, and consumer confidence in Australian livestock products.
